z4 engine transplant question
Anyone know if it is a straight swap to replace the 2.5 m54 to the 3ltr version?
As in using the same mounts, gearbox etc. Is it literally just a case of unplugging one and plugging the new one in?
Would I need the 3ltr ecu/loom etc?
Am I right in saying that it is the same engine in the e60 etc?
This is only a thought at the moment.
Thanks

RE: z4 engine transplant question
I'm no expert but I'd imagine it's a very similar. Is the z4 manual? All 530i e60's are auto's as far as I'm aware, so I'd imagine the process would be a lot easy if going auto-auto

RE: z4 engine transplant question
I'm not sure if it's worth the expense/effort to be honest Kris, I'd say if you can hold out for a 3L do, they pop up once in a while and they're usually cheaper than the 2.5 / 2.0s so win win!

RE: z4 engine transplant question
The car is manual.
I am right in saying the 3ltr out of the early e60 is the same as the e39?
Im just thinking down the line Peter. If i get bored
Plenty of 3ltr e39s being broken these days.
Could get a decent 3ltr fitted for around 1k id say if it litterally bolts straight in.

RE: z4 engine transplant question
If it's 1 - 1.5k then I'd say go for it the engine you're looking for is the M54B30 it was fitted to the e46 330i, e39 530i, early e60 530i etc more details here :
