I am looking at buying an E39 525d with 120,000 miles on it to use as a daily driver
Is there anything specific I should be looking out for that should have been replaced by now?
Also anyone any experience of MPG with these ?
Thanks

Daves old one is still available, I'd take a guess you won't find better.

Lots go wrong, check out my old build thread. Big ticket items are injectors and suspension overhaul. That's about 4K on its own. If it hasn't been done, budget for it. They're not cheap cars to get 100%Originally Posted by KevinF

It's 6.5k, it's expensive, it does 50+ mpg all day. I spent 12k on it excluding the purchase of be car. I see you see the value in spending money, it's the car to buy.
Thanks Dave that is a really beautiful car but I'm looking for an auto.
I will get it looked at in detail before I purchase . I am looking for something as a daily driver, not too heavy on juice that I can hang onto. I am prepared to spend money to get it right, I find the E39's the most comfortable of all cars to drive. I have back issues and I can drive to Cork in one and not a bother
So injectors & suspension . Also I've been told to ask about swirl flaps and the turbo . Thanks, I will take a look at her and report back

+1 with dave. They are a fantastic car, I have a e39 525d. Bought it a year and a half ago and loving every minute of it I'm getting 45+ mpg in mine. Mix of town and country driving, although it is manual.
