I normally just keep trying to start it give the starter a regular break don't crank continuously, some people remove spark plugs and fuel pump relay but I have never gone that far. Plenty of fuel in the tank?

Guarantee it will start with a brand new battery
OK, found the problem: a faulty fuel pump. so will replace it next week.
Found the cause of failure: broken fuel pump. So will have to get it replaced.
