    E92 m3

It looks like the Turbo could be moving on soon so I will be looking for something to fill the void, if it does go I will plan on driving the E36 for a while but ideally I will be looking at an E92 M3.

It wont come close to the performance of the Turbo so I am prepared for that.

I have drove a couple of E92 M3's and was never impressed, however these were with sales persons in the car so never got to really stretch there legs.

I would expect them to shine when well up the rev range.

Budget should allow between 30K - 40K so ideally id be looking for quite a low mileage and well spec'd example.

I will be after a LCI example with DCT.

Is the EDC a good option to have? Does it become void if coilovers are put on, or is there specific coilovers which work in tandem with the EDC for example?

Is there any well known issues I should look out for with them?

VRT calculator is down at present so not sure how viable bringing one is at present but that maybe an option.

UK is your best bet, you should pick up a 2007/2008 with low mileage, have it VRT'd and taxed for 12 months for within your budget, albeit the top end of it!

From what I remember, the e90 M3 is cheaper to VRT for some reason. That could have changed now.

Some nice E90 M3's around the £20k now on pistonheads.

Can't seem to find them on VRT calculator though.
    It's €9,086 for an E92 2008 with 40k miles.

I love these cars, I'd nearly pick an e90 as there harder find and a bit more functional for taking the lads out for a burn.

I have one for the past 3 1/2 years - which is the longest I've had a car so I guess says something . You are right it needs to be over 5K rpm to really get going, but then goes to over 8K to make up for it

EDC is one of those internet flash points, lads who have it reckon its a must have, others not so much. Its on mine but 90% of the time its in the middle setting which is supposed to be similar to a non EDC car. 'Hard' is to firm for the road and I don't like how it handles in 'soft'. I think you can get EDC coilovers but not 100%. Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if an otherwise good car didn't have EDC.

The main things that go are Throttle actuators(€700 a side) and Anti lock brake module(€2K). The actuators seems to be a case of when not if, I've had 2 go in mine and 2 in the M5 previously. I'm not aware of any tell tale sign prior to failure. The annoying part is the replacement part is the same number so presumably it could happen again. Apart from that its the normal bushing and suspension bits.

Will a LCI car not be the CO2 tax(€2350)? My is pre that so 'only' €1890

I'm based in Galway - happy to give you a spin in mine if you are out West.

The e90 is only about 4k to Vrt. It's valued at something like 12k!

They might have copped on to the e90 - can't find it on the calculator anymore

I said that above, not too much gets past them nowadays!
Jap imports are worse again. Can't even get a quote for a UK model S2000 as they have taken Jap models off the system.
