E46 N42 rattle

Well it's started! Car rattles, drives fine, rattle stops when I disconnect the MAF. I also think there may be an issue with the MAF as sometimes it feels like it's not giving full power for a split second. Any ideas? Could it be the valvetronic as the rattle stops when MAF is disconnected?

if any of the sensors are disconnected , engine ECU works in limp - save mode .so in your case disconnecting AFM ,valvetronic system goes in save mode and dont use the system .it could be valvetronic system parts worn or vanos units .diagnostics first anyaway

Hi, Thank you for the reply. I will get it checked. Is it an expensive fix?

if its valvetronic shaft and arms worn ,very expencive new,or search for second hand good ones,will see the condition only with rocker cover off. vanos units new over 300e if im correct .
