Thread: E39 steering feels heavy

    E39 steering feels heavy

I just collected an E39 525i import from Japan yesterday. It has 40,000 miles on it and is in beautiful condition.

The steering feels very heavy though, its hard work especially at low speeds. Any ideas what the issue might be ?

    Thanks

Another one 😮 very nice. Could be the steering pump? Did you check the fluid level?

Power steering pump is the likely culprit. Does it get lighter depending on revs.

Also, weren't you trying to flip this car?

Thanks for your suggestions Dave & Gar. This is a different car, I drove the last one for 6 months and then sold it in the UK. I saw this at an auction in Japan before Christmas and got it for a bargain....just can't help myself .

Check the tie rods too. Does PS fluid loose its viscosity with age?

This is my BMW. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My BMW is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My BMW, without me, is useless. Without my BMW, I am useless. I must drive my BMW true......
