I just collected an E39 525i import from Japan yesterday. It has 40,000 miles on it and is in beautiful condition.
The steering feels very heavy though, its hard work especially at low speeds. Any ideas what the issue might be ?
Thanks

Welcome to E39 ownership
Hi Ian .... no I haven't , its due an service so I'll get that looked at. I'll need new tyres also so I'll swing by soon
Am I having deja vu didn't you buy this last year
Anywho check power steering fluid level and front tyre pressures
Power steering pump is the likely culprit. Does it get lighter depending on revs.
Also, weren't you trying to flip this car?

Thanks for your suggestions Dave & Gar. This is a different car, I drove the last one for 6 months and then sold it in the UK. I saw this at an auction in Japan before Christmas and got it for a bargain....just can't help myself .
Check the tie rods too. Does PS fluid loose its viscosity with age?
