NCT Fail on Brake Line - Compression Joins
Had 2002 E46 320TD fail NCT yesterday at Ballymun Northpoint 2 - Failed Dangerous - Must be lifted to a repair centre cannot be towed.
Had failed following recent repairs - replacement of brake lines rear left and right.
Problem was the joins in the area of the mid-section of the car, just forward of the fuel tank. Repairer had used compression fittings (no flaring of pipes) to join the cunnifer replacement pipes to the steel originals - making a connection just short of the ABS unit. Both joins had leaked when examined by tester. Compression (straight pipe unflared) fittings are not acceptable to NCT even when functioning.
This was the second repair job done on this car (2nd NCT - a retest) and understandably when I had to have the car towed to a repair centre. I was fairly pi**ed. Now I have had to cough up for further repairs.
Be careful with getting work done....
