The biggest cause of the control unit failure on that engine is oil contamination. Double check that none is leaking onto them, it comes from the swirl flaps.Originally Posted by techman
I have seen them fail without any oil contamination but once replaced with a beru or genuine unit they rarely give trouble again. What brand are you fitting? And you've checked that it's not your glow plugs are faulty?
Also make sure if you've fitted glow plugs recently that there 5v ones, not on BMW's but another brand of car I've seen the wrong voltage glow plugs fitted and this damaged the relay.
