    Bluetooth problem - 171 3 series

    Hi all,

    I got a new 318D in April.

I'm having an ongoing issue with my bluetooth. I gave a Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016). It connects fine to the car. But, 80% of the time, as soon as anyone calls or I call, the bluetooth drops. The call isn't dropped but the connection to the speaker in the car is so I have to pull over and take the call on the phone.

Anyone any ideas or hear about this. Before I go back to BMW, it might be a Samsung issue rather than a BMW issue? It has become quite frustrating now as, more often than not, it means that the bluetooth is useless.

    Thanks!!

The Samsung J3 has Bluetooth 4.0, newer (better spec) phones have 4.2, I'd say that could be the issue?

BMW will tell you that you are "not using a certified or approved handset so it must be your phone". Have you updated the phone and the car to the latest software version? I know that there are lots of problems recently with Bluetooth and BMW/Mini. There was a recent release that solved a lot of what you're talking about. Download it from the BMW portal to a USB stick and install in the car, also update your phone to latest and greatest. Then cross your fingers!

    Thanks Rebel,

I can certainly try as you suggest. If I do, I hope BMW won't invalidate the warranty because I did it myself?

Also, the dealer said that the car has (limited) internet. Can the car not download itself? Sorry, if the questions seem a bit thick but I'm hopeless with technology!!

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!!

You won't invalidate your warranty, the dealer is right, it can't download the update itself. Probably a good reason for it (or maybe not!).

Enter your VIN here and it will give you the correct update:
