Tbh, the outcome you have now, while still a painful hit, isn't such a bad one if you intend to keep the car for a reasonable period of time. You could probably chip a few hundred off the cost to you by being persistent, but given that Conlon's have batted for you (as they should), its probably a figure you could consider as goodwill back to them.

Well I had a deal done with a friend of mine to buy the car and he was waiting for the loan to come through. He was with me in the car when this whole thing happened.

Given that I'm putting this 3k into it I'll hold onto it and reap the benefit of the new engine. No point paying that for someone else to benefit.

Or get him to pay 2k more, take a 1k hit and buy the M4 you wanted

IMO 100% of the engine cost is good outcome. I wouldn’t argue further.
Do you know if this is brand new engine or factory rebuilt?

I'm I the only one to think a 67,000 km engine letting go in a premium vehicle is unacceptable ?

The Koreans & Japanese have the balls to stand behind their Engineering (7 or even 8 year warranties) - the Germans don't want to know & just walk away. They have simply become unaccountable....

Nah, doesn't make sense to let someone else benefit from a new engine. The rest of the car (bar the alloys I'm considering getting refurbed) is 100%.

It certainly is a good outcome. It's a brand new engine from what I'm told, not a rebuild. Given the fact that the cost is €14,000 + VAT I would be comfortable in the notion that it's brand new. 2 year warranty coming with it.

No you're not the only one. I'm of the same opinion and even moreso given that Valdas has worked on a few of them with the same issue. Speaking of which = @Valdas - the ones you worked on; were they stock or remapped?

    I’m with you BigH.

If I performed my job with the same failure rate as BMW my name would be fairly well stained and I wouldn’t find work too easily.

They wash their hands of the labour because they aren’t willing to pay the dealer.

Is it a full engine or just bits replaced? I wouldn’t like the old oil filter housing which prob contains the cooler or the old turbo going back on. Who knows how much swarf is inside them.

Coincidentally I work for a large German company and lack of accountability (or admitting that anything is wrong/under par) is endemic in German culture.....

It takes the Irish to say, cop-the-fuck-on and do it right....

It's a whole new engine Smokey but ancillaries like the turbo etc. from the old engine are all being checked, cleaned and put on the new engine.

Just my opinion but oil cooler/filter housing and turbo should be thrown out too.

There’s no way to check them without opening them and all they’ll do is flush them out, you’ll be at loss in the end of it let’s go again.
