Cool little chart highlighting all generations of the m3
It's amazing what technology does, I'm aghast at the latest generation M3/M4, torque vs CO2 emissions !
surprised that the e30 M3 was the "greenest". Was full sure i was burning my own little
hole in the ozone.
Depends what models they took into account I suppose, there was a non cat/cat models afaik and then different versions of the S14!Originally Posted by xworks
I'm guessing they just used the "greenest" model of each M3!
Amazing. The last time an M3/4 will probably see a V8
I think the emissions quoted for the V8 are a tad optimistic but the torque and CO2 for the new one is diesel like. They've obviously gone for huge torque over a big HP figure.
I reckon the relatively low BHP increase figure may grate with them a bit in the future as no doubt Audi and Mercedes will pulverise them with their BHP figures during the 'my one is bigger that your one' advertising campaigns. Let the games commence.
Actually, what's a sub-200g CO2 road tax here?

Not at all. BMW is leading the way by increasing power whilst reducing emmisions.Originally Posted by IrishEyes
For example the new RS6 is actually LESS powerful than its predecessor.
Agree with the power and emissions ratings on the BMW's. It was in relation to the two nearest German competitors - the C AMG and RS4 - and the actual headline power figures. The new C-class is about to be launched and I reckon the AMG version when it comes online could go stratospheric with the BHP. Thought the RS4 had a higher output than the V8 M3 so even with a modest BHP increase for the F80, it will still be close to the RS4 BHP. No?Originally Posted by DoktorB
The RS6 is another kettle of fish because even if they did drop the power, 552 horses (or whatever it is) is more than enough.
The new M3 will probably be a better driver but the marketing men I think will play on the BHP figures.
