    got three keys, mate :
    master one which died, second key and 3rd plastic T-shaped one.
    2nd key opens the doors, starting the car but somehow doesn't disarm alarm ...

    [e60] key stopped working ..help needed

    I thought you should be able to start the car with the plastic key, I don't believe the plastic key is internally coded.

    It's just that you don't get ignition, from my experience when there's a problem with the key, the car will come on and turn over but you won't get ignition.

    didn't try plastic one yet, mate...thought is a kind of service key

    It is a service key it doesn't open the boot or glovebox but does everything else , if the car was locked using the diamond key it would have been armed/alarmed so when you come back and open the car using the key in the door the alarm will keep going off until the keys put in the ignition

    Thanks mate I'll try it in the morning as carrying 2 keys: one to disarm and 2nd to start the car is a bit of pain in a**e

    ..sorted, ive ordered new key at Frank Keanes... 186quid including discount
    btw, parts fella for first time heard about similar problem with the key
