Do the older M62b44 non vanos suffer from similar problems? particularly timing chains and/or guides? Have one on the ground at the minute with about 99k miles on it.

They suffer with a bigger problem, cylinder bore wear!

Thought that was only a problem with the nikasil blocks? Or it it all of them?

Nope it happen to all the petrols around that era!
