E39 525i 19/20 mpg !

my auto diesel 3.0 did 22mg , foot to the floor and petrol wouldnt catch it :tounge:

When was it last serviced what was changed ?

Have you reset the trip ?

Should be doing an easy +25mpg my own is currently sitting on 28.8 avg

I had it serviced about 6 weeks ago Gar....just the basic engine oil, oil filter and air filter it says on the receipt.

I have reset the trip a couple of times. Have had a diagnostic done by logic automotive as he is refurbishing the ABS module. All that came up bar the speed sensors is a faulty positive battery connector - the red ine.it's reading 'resistance too high'

Couple of lads suggested change air filters and sparks next

I'd get a diagnostics ran on the car. It may be a faulty O2 sensor. Jap cars are mapped for 100 Ron petrol and irish is 95 Ron may be something to do with that but I doubt it.

Proper diagnostic done ....nothing showing at all bar a faulty positive battery connector

The ABS module being refurbished now by logic automotive so speed sensors were coming up

Seems a bit low alright. Thermostat could be failed.Your coolant temp guage should sit bang in the middle and not move when warmed up.

Should that show in a diagnostic ?

Set of ngk plugs and an air filter will net you roughly 2-3mpg billy

Definitely worth having a look at it then. I recently changed mine - it was the original from 2003 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Improvement was felt all round.

My 525i Auto gets around 20 or so in the city, I would've thought that it's normal. Long runs I can hit 38/40mpg.

Yep on a long run economy improves greatly in mine too. 39mpg on trip to Clifden from the pale.
