my turbo m50 guidelines

_ engine requirements
-mls head gasket / multi-layer gasket (budget)
-arp head studs (no budget alternative)
-arp conrod bolts (not necessary )
-pistons/conrods upgrades unnecessary but nice
camshafts generally 248/248 (uneccassary)
intake manifold is fine but upgraded manifold helps when adding a boost controller(or use vems for boost controller without manifold upgrade ($300 eBay - 2.5k custom)
turbo manifold (can copy mine for cheap) lhd won’t fit dowpipe
injectors (I’ve 60b)
fuel pump (I’ve a walbro)
front mount intercooler (I’ve cxracing cheap and cheerful)

-TUNING
miller war chip with MAP will be cheapest and easiest
gstuning do a vems ecu for 720 pound much more advanced but a lot of money for what it is ,
if no vanos a nice plug and play is very easy

CLUTCH
m20 lightweight single mass flywheel
sachs 618 pressure plate / or e53 3.0d x5 pressure plate
upgraded clutch plate … clutch net.com
or else go all out and get a tilton etc etc

GEARBOX/DIFF
328i/3.0 m3 is strong unless you want to go 6 speed
small case diff won’t last pissing time
medium is the only way , if you have a welded diff make sure you reinforce the floor pan as the extra torque will rip the trailing arms out of the car and crack subframe mountings (just going on what I’ve read I’ve no personal experience with welded diffs hah)

BRAKES
brakes will need upgrading with all the extra power options are limitless here, I’ve evo m3 rears and e46 330i fronts

COOLING
metal water pump
metal thermostat housing
m3 rad is always the best or go custom
bigger is better
oil cooler is a good idea several ways to go about this I’ve euro m3 oil cooler housing

TURBO
I’ve a genuine gt3582r (garrett)
this is a grey area but if you want to go balls out get a gtx ball bearing turbo (mine is journal as its cheaper)
judge the turbo size depending on appicantion bigger means more lag and reduced torque curve so harder to drift , smaller is nicer to drift as more instant power
with turbos you get what you pay for ,in certain ways i do regret getting a garret as it needs both oil and water lines which makes things more awkward other turbos just need oil,
get the oil feed from under the intake manifold (kit available)
return to sump with a 45 degree angle bung so no need for scavenger pump then ,
water supply lines are from the throttle body lines,
with turbos you get what you pay for so don’t get shitty eBay
you will need to replace windscreen washer bottle so get creative
also depending on your turbo you may need a external waste (I’ve a 38mm tial) this is for when you have a non waste gate turbo but a wastegated can be modified for it , bov if you don’t have a external waste gate

herre is an example of a full spec list of a 590hp m3 engine in america so you can judge for yourself
