I'm thinking about changing the E60 for something a little sportier. Right now, it's main use is Dublin - Kilkenny a few times a month and it's parked up the rest of the time. Ideally, I would like a 630i, not interested in the 645 or the 635d.
What's the room like in the back? I have 2 kids, both under two so surely it's roomy enough? Are they a 4 or a 5 seater?
I know a few people on here have one, so opinions gladly welcome :)
I like them,have similar issues to an e60 after all they pretty much are an e60 coupe, they are a 4 seater, the rear seats are abit of a joke, are either of the kids under 9 months? As a rear facing seat will be a real issue unless you have an axiss or the likes that twists. Ive driven a few and really liked them, dont undersand why your ruling out the 635d though? There a fantastic car, the 630i to me feels a little under powered
No, both kids are over 9 months! I think I would just like to stay with petrol. Not really fond of diesel and the 630 seems to be best value for money imo!

I had contemplated one a couple of months back but the back seats were just too tight (legroom wise) for a 2yo & 4yo. There's zero legroom behind the driver (if you're over 6ft tall) and it would have meant putting the 4yo in the front seat, but potentially too close to the airbag for my liking. I reluctantly ended up in a non BMW saloon thereafter !
The running costs of the 645i are just far too high (even including man-maths because it's a V8). The 635d are a lovely machine alright but there's a big premium to pay for them over the petrols - you'd need to be doing starship annual mileage to make that worthwhile IMO.
Depending on budget, but you could go for a 2008 on LCi 630i which had a c. 13bhp power increase to 268bhp (an 0-60 of 6.4 seconds is pretty rapid in anyones book) with the added benefit of €750 motor tax. The LCI petrols seem pretty thin on the ground though....

What's the room like in the back? Answer - Dreadful! Entry to the rear is best achieved by using a wood chipper on your passengers. - small kids OK, wouldn't be of any great use to a adult much over 5ft.

To a point, yes. N52 630i is a little less torquey than our N53 530i that we have but not a major issue in the real world. N52 on 6 sounds fruitier than slightly sterile sounding N53. I'm using ours daily at the moment and its a pleasant place to be. Not a hugely different driving experience than an e60 but friends, etc. notice the 6 when they've never noticed the 5's I've had.Quote:

Individual model in bmw usually only indicates color combo, in this instance the interior, grey with black carpets is quite a rare interior colour for one, which does look fantastic, opposed to the more common cream with cream carpet!Quote:

If you're going down the individual route, you'd think that the original owner would have specced something a little more unique/outstanding than those wheels/paintwork....:confused:
Love them myself was just about to buy one as my next car until circumstances changed meaning I need a stupid jeep instead.
How come you've ruled out the 645i though? Honestly not that much worse to maintain, run etc than the 30i ( by all accounts) and the only unique issue they seem to have is a poorly placed water pipe that's easily rectified. For the power and more importantly sound, I'd really go for it, the 650i is more powerful again and a tad newer too.

I've bought a 3.0 petrol (not a bmw) as a daily and if I split the use 50/50 between it and the M5, the difference in running costs pays for the road tax on the 3.0.
There's no difference in cost between insuring the M5 on my main policy vs insuring the 3.0 on my main policy and the M5 on a classic.
Also, a 645/650 will be almost unsellable when it comes the time to shift it.

Haven driven all of the E63 models and having to haul two kids around in the back of them at times with all there belongings I’d say keep the E60 ;)
Oh btw 635d, only one to buy, keep up with all models (in real life terms) excluding the ///M, cheapest to tax and good on juice. The V8s are a lovely drive but p!ss oil from everything and the 630i probably the best petrol engine.

Rarely see 08 + 630i, any for sale at the minute? Consideribg you can buy an 05/06 630i for 4/5k , 635ds are around 10/11k, would a 630i fall in the middle? If there 750 tax then they do make good sense.
I see a 645i on dondeal with a whopper receipt for engine oil leak repairs ! Didnt realise they were so common!
Ones at that price would have fairly hefty mileage up on them (turbo replacement territory). Let's not forget EGR, DPF, Injector issues etc. all possible too.Quote:

To be fair though there is a massive difference in a 645 and an m6. The 645 always struck me as the baby M and honestly I can't see it being too much more expensive to run than the 630i. Plus i think the 630i us a bit underpowered.
Any of the petrols are half the price of the diesels too
My friend sold his black 08 LCI 630i (€750 tax) for €11k after having it advertised for over 3 months. Despite the €750 tax, there just such a small market for them. The also all pretty much seem to suffer from injector issues which are costly to fix! Apart from that they’re great cars, I loved his and considered buying it more than once!Quote:
